The Pursuit of the Power of Prayer

Today was a special day. This was a day that was recognized as “Dads take your child to school” day. I did not even know it exsisted until I went to my daughter’s school and the whole week before they were reminding us moms that it was the dads turn to take their child to school. I have to admit when I first saw the sign I was reluctant to tell my daughter’s father. Not because I did not want to tell him, I did not trust him to come through for her and I did not want my daughter to have another disappointment to deal with. If you are a single mom like me, you may have experienced that “ghost-dad” episode a time or a dozen. As the date approached I texted my daughter’s dad and told him about the day and it would be cool to take our daughter. He happily agreed but something inside me said “he’s not going to come through”. I did not want to believe that so I decided to think that he would be true to his word and keep his promise, this time.

Two days before the day he was supposed to take our daughter, I had not heard from him and he flaked on our daughter AGAIN! I was very nervous about him not showing up and our daughter kept reaffirming that her dad was going to take her to school. All I could do was confirm that was the plan but the fact that I had not heard from him the entire weekend made me worry he would not come through. I found myself talking to my friend briefly about it and she reminded me that I needed to pray. I must admit that I had stopped praying for him because he seemed to keep with the same pattern. In my mind I thought, why pray for someone who is NOT changing at all. Then it made me think of all the times Jesus must intercede on my behalf and I find myself doing the same thing over and over, that would frustrate Him right? No, Jesus STILL goes before God on my behalf.

21 Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Matthew 18:21-22

Once that scripture came to mind, I soon realized that if Jesus tells me to forgive someone up to seventy seven times, why am I adamant of leaving someone in their way and not praying for their change continually?

I will tell you why. It is frustrating to spend time in prayer, praying for someone that you do not see the change in. For me I would pray for him, but then when he would end up only being “good” for a few weeks then go back to the same way of doing things, I gave up praying. To me I thought what is the point? My prayers are clearly not getting through and I am wasting my time and God’s. Have you felt like this before? If you have answered yes, I am going to show you how the pursuit of the power of prayer can be so effective for you and the people you pray for, you will want to pray continuosly! (That’s bible too, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”)

  1. The Pursuit of Prayer you automatically set yourself up to becoming more powerful than you can even think. Prayer has a special key that unlocks doors because when you pray, you are specific and direct about what you are praying about. When you put that together with faith while you are praying, the power that comes from that will cause ANY change you are asking for to take place.
  2. The Pursuit of Prayer allows you to pray continually. Sometimes we will pray and they are quick prayers and there is nothing wrong with that. But there is a difference when you are in pursuit of prayer of a specific outcome. When you pursue something you are relentless. So when you are relentless in prayer and focused on the outcome, you will experience that very thing you are seeking.
  3. The Pursuit of Prayer will teach you patience. Trust me on this on. When I prayed for my daughter’s father, I was persistent in praying for him at one point but when I saw he was not following through I began to think, “what the heck am I praying for?” It was not until today that I realized that what I was praying for months prior came to pass. Something in me clicked and said, “Your prayers taught you to be diligent and it has worked out patience in you”. At first I did not believe that because I would get frustrated easily, but then when I thought of how I would give him chance after chance, it showed me that I believed that he would eventually change based on the prayers I had prayed.
  4. The Pursuit of Prayer is not so much for the person, it is for you! The pursuit of prayer builds your own faith in God and reaffirms that you are not alone even if you are a single parent. I struggled alot thinking I was by myself in raising my daughter. That frustrated me the most. When I pursued prayer the most is when I saw how God showed up for me and stepped in and became what I needed. While He became what I needed, I saw a shift in my daughter’s father, now THAT is Power!
  5. The Pursuit of Prayer will strengthen your relationship with your child’s father or absent parent. I know that there may be people who will read this blog who LOATHE that parent. I just want to encourage you, when you pray, and pray with an earnest heart for that person, God will not only change them, He will change you first! That is the True POWER of the Pursuit of the Power of Prayer!

Today, was a great day! I was able to see a smile on my daughter’s face that is just irreplaceable that I could not put there. Her dad came through for her and it reminded me, that Prayers DONOT go unnoticed! So don’t stop praying, Stay in Pursuit!

The Pursuit of Faith

Its September!

The month of Birthing. Many people wait for spring time for new things to come forth and be birthed. They say, “Let’s Spring into the New”. Well for me, September is the time of new birth, “falling away”, and entering into a new season of change and endless possibilities. I recently celebrated my daughter’s 4th birthday on September 3rd. I cannot believe she is 4 years old. I remember when I went into labor. I sat on my couch, counting the minutes in between contractions and all of a sudden “POP”, my water broke and my daughter was making her way into the world.

That’s just like life right? You may be going through something and it has you in pain. I am not talking about pain that you can take medicine for and it goes away, I am talking about the pain you cannot even describe and then all of a sudden “POP” something breaks, there is a release and you realize there is a bigger picture, a bigger expectation to come. When I went into the delivery room, my daughter was in a position to be pushed out. I was in so much pain that I had no strength left to help guide her through but I was determined to get her here, safely. As I think about her birth, the moment I brought her home, laid her in her crib, I cried. How the hell was I going to take care of this new life? What qualified me to do this? I was completely and utterly stuck and the only thing I had to hold on to and pursue with everything in me was the FAITH that I could do it.

That’s the thing about faith, it shows up Big when you don’t even remember that it is there. When you pursue something you are relentless in obtaining the thing you are after. Faith can be tricky. It puts you through tests, it gets put to the test, it strengthens you but it also has the ability to break you down. Faith will keep you lifted and it will also keep you when you’ve fallen.

I want to encourage you with a 5 ways to pursue faith with a relentless drive:

  1. Pursue faith when you have nothing else. I know it sounds crazy but that is when you MUST take faith by the horns and allow it to do the work it is supposed to do. If you had all the answers, you wouldn’t need it, but you do.

2. Pursue faith when you are confused about what direction to go in. This can be       hard because confusion will cloud your mind, but the bible says, “He that keeps His       mind stayed on Him will be kept in perfect peace”. That means you will have peace       of mind, clarity can come and you will be able to understand how to move and               proceed in life.

3. Pursue faith when you have taken your life in your own hands. We all have             done this. Made choices that we know were not the best for us but decided to do it         anyway.Faith has the ability to allow us to course correct and put us back on the             right track.

4. Pursue faith when you dont have the strength to believe anymore. This is when     you are down to ground, licking the pavement but something in you still says, this           is NOT it for you. Pursue faith as though your life depended on it, because it does!

5. Pursue faith even when you have what you have asked for, it shows gratitude to     Him who had given it to you. Faith is about understanding God’s reign in your life.           Pursuing faith in greater times, prepares you to have Unshakeable faith in the worst       of times. Believe That!

There is a Bonus to pursuing faith. Pursue Faith with your words! Our words have incredible power. In the midst of darkness, chaos and turmoil, when we speak words of positivity, rooted in faith, it activates the faith deep inside allowing for God to move on our behalf. It allows the great things that we desire to happen to rush in because we have made a conscious effort Speak the Words of Faith into it. So essentially when we speak words of faith and pursue it our life lines up with that activity and we are able to witness the manifestation of it.

So what will you pursue? Will you Pursue Faith in Chaos? I am hoping your answer will be YES! Trust me, you will see your life will begin to shift to line up with the Word you have spoken into it and you will be able to birth the precious gift that has been locked up on the inside of you and experience the amazing growth that comes along with it!

A New Beginning in Time

There is a time…

Ecclesiastes 3
There is a time to be silent and a time to speak.
For a long time now I have been silent. Did that mean I wasn’t talking? No it meant that I have been in preparation to share what I have been given or what has been “downloaded” into me by God to give to the people He has ordained for me to give it to. I used to be very annoyed with time. When I heard people say “it’s not your time, wait your turn, your TIME is coming” I used to feel like, “why isn’t it MY TIME NOW”. Isn’t that like society now? We want it Now, everything is now. There is no waiting, a microwave , popcorned culture.

As I read my bible at the beginning of this week, it was very clear to me that time is such an asset and in comprehending; not just understanding the time and season of things, we will be able to live our lives very productively.

I discovered 5 things about time and how we need to be aware and ready to go when time permits, prepare for the time to execute or just be still in waiting for our time to come:

1. Time needs to always be given an assignment: (I learned this from one of my mentors/coach Eboni L Truss)

When time has an assignment you cannot do anything outside of what it has already been purposed to do. The bible says “there is a time to plant and a time to uproot”. You better not dare think you can uproot when its time to plant because guess what? Whatever you plant will not survive. Its the same thing with business and in life. If you try to plant something when its time to uproot, you will continuously see things fall away, not work out, people will drop off away from you , all because you were not operating in the right time.
2. Time is an asset: As I am growing my writing business, I realize how important and valuable time is. It waits for no one but it is given freely. Its what You decide to do with it that makes all the difference. How you “spend” time shows where you are in life. Time is almost a rare commodity. Use it well and it will serve you so well!
3. Time must be taken seriously: Think about when you get up in the morning. You get dressed, if you have kids you get them dressed and ready to go and if you’re like me, you are checking that time every 5 minutes to see how much time is left. Time governs your life! It is how you function. When you waste time, you are literally allowing time to tell you, your life is meaningless! Honestly think about conversations, arguments that were just draining and unfruitful and the time it took to have them. You could have been doing something so amazing but you wasted your time. Don’t let time beat you over the head, rule the time don’t let it rule you!

4. Time is NOT money: You can always gain more money, you cannot gain more time. Everyone gets the same amount of time, 24 hours. That’s like everyone getting 24 dollars a day. Everyone spends their 24 hours differently. It may seem like they are getting more time but they are not, they are actually maximizing what they’ve been given to its fuleest potential, and guess what you can too! People tend to say time is money because they are not wasting time with frivolous things. If we start thinking more wisely about time just as we do money, we will be able to maximize what we’ve been given as well and get the most value out of it.
5. Time is given, not earned so treat it as a gift: We can never earn time. Time has a way of slipping through our fingers if we aren’t careful. Treat each second as though you know it will not come back, because in reality it won’t.

Time is for everyone but not everyone know how to use it. Trust me, I have learned a thing or two about time, and everyday I am getting better and more savvy in maximizing the time I have. Is it easy? NOT AT ALL, but as Eric Thomas says , “If you want to be successful as bad as you want to Breath then you will be successful”. That is the realest statement I’ve ever heard. Successful people have the same time an unsuccessful person has. The difference is the person who desires success understands how time can be used, the unsuccessful person wastes time nor understanding the value.

This is a new month, a  month of New Beginnings. Make the most of it, Value Time, Treat it well, and Make it Count. I guarantee time will serve you well!
